Astra Bank presented Roosevelt Elementary School with a check for $3,000 Tuesday to pay for its fifth-grade classes to participate in Young AmeriTowne in Lenora.

When the kids visit Lenora in the spring, they will turn into miniature adults. They have a job. They interview for their job. They have a checking account. They learn how to write checks.

Last year, Roosevelt fifth-graders participated in Young AmeriTowne. This year, the school plans to send about 70 students.

The project was funded last year by the school's Home and School group, but this year it used its funds to replace playground equipment.

Kyle Campbell and Deron and Sue O’Connor of Astra Bank were on hand Tuesday for the check presentation.
