GREAT BEND - Hays High softball lost twice to rival Great Bend, 13-2 and 12-2, dropping all three games of the series this week. Hays has lost four-straight and eight of their last nine and are 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the WAC.
The Indians will play at TMP-Marian next Thursday (April 30).
Game 1: Great Bend 13, Hays 2 (5 innings)
Great Bend scored early and never looked back, pulling away with big second and fourth innings. Kamryn Koelsch and Chayla Prendergast each homered, while Alyssa McCauley and Prendergast drove in three runs apiece in the win.
The Indians scored their two runs on a Adalie double in the third. Hays was held to only three hits and committed three errors.
Avery Raymer took the loss in the circle.
Game 2: Great Bend 12, Hays 2 (5 innings)
Braelyn Turner hit a first inning with a grand slam and Chayla Prendergast added a two-run homer in the third to pace the Panthers.
The Indians scored their two runs in the fourth on a Jaylee Summers single.
Summers took the loss in the circle.
Brynlee Rupp had two of Hays’ four hits.
