⚾ Larks open homestand with big win over Denver

HAYS – Taber Stokes, CJ Reid and Brady Kreutzer all drove in four runs as the Hays Larks opened up a seven-game homestand with a convincing 15-0 win over the Denver Cougars. The Larks had a 3-0 lead after four inning then blew the game open with a pair of six run innings in the fifth and sixth. The game was called after seven by run rule.

Dalton Campbell (2-0) allowed two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over the first five innings and picked up the win. Jordan Stribling followed with two scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts and three walks.

The Larks (5-1-1, 3-1 RMBL) grabbed the lead on Brady Kreutzer’s RBI double in the bottom of the second. They tacked on two more runs in the third on CJ Reid’s double to right field. The lead grew to 4-0 on an L Reid’s RBI double in the fifth. Following back-to-back walks to Paul Smith and Ried, Kreutzer cleared the bases with a three-run double down the left field line to push the lead to 8-0. Trent Baker capped the inning with a single which scored Kreutzer.

After a walk and back-to-back hit batters loaded the bases in the sixth, Reid grounded into fielder’s choice which scored a run. Another hit batter loaded the bases then Lane Sparks singled to right which scored two and made the score 12-0. Baker would cap the scoring a batter later with a three-run homer.

The Larks took advantage of 11 walks and three hit batters. Four of their 15 hits were doubles including two by Kreutzer. Campbell and Stribling combined to strikeout 11 Cougar (2-3, 0-1 RMBL) batters while walking only three.
