👟 Tiger men and women both finish in top 5 at MIAA Indoor Championships

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Fort Hays State track and field teams both finished in the top five at the MIAA Indoor Championships this weekend, with the Tiger men ranking fourth and the women placing fifth. The fourth-place finish for the men is their best-ever finish indoors since joining the MIAA in 2007, while the women's fifth-place ranking is tied for their top finish in the league.

The Tigers received six All-MIAA awards on Sunday, including the MIAA Champion 4x400m men's relay team. Two women's school records went down on the final day, while the teams combined to post nine NCAA Division II national qualifying marks.

For the week, the Tigers picked up 10 All-MIAA honors (seven men, three women) and recorded 22 national qualifying marks (12 men, 10 women).

The Tiger men accumulated 76 points on the week, just three behind third place, while the women finished fifth with 45 points.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Hayden AlbrightPhilip LandrumEthan Lang and Nolan Churchman wrapped up the tournament with a bang, finishing first with a time of 3:11.32. They are the fourth indoor relay team in school history to win an MIAA Championship and the first-ever Tiger 4x400m relay team to take home the conference title.

Landrum and Lang also earned individual All-MIAA honors, with Landrum finishing third in the 200m dash with a time of 21.49 and Lang placing second in the 800m run after crossing the line in 1:51.22.

Jacob Clark and Ryan Stanley both earned All-MIAA status in the pole vault, with Clark clearing the bar at 16-11.5 to finish second and Stanley taking home third with a top clearance of 16-7.5.

Regan Hodsden earned her second All-MIAA award of the weekend after finishing third in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:03.46. Darian Hudgeons also collected team points in the 3K for the Tigers, ranking fifth with a time of 10:07.95 to move into the top five on the FHSU DII era performance chart.

Mattie Rossi broke the school record in the 600y run for the second time in as many days, surpassing her preliminary time of 1:23.54 with a time of 1:22.94 in Sunday's finals to finish fourth.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Lyric HolmanReba MaderTaylor Savolt and Rossi shaved .05 off their school-record time, finishing fourth in 3:46.88.

Holman and Savolt also earned team points in individual events, with Holman finishing fourth in the 60m dash finals with a season-best time of 7.53. Savolt was sixth in the triple jump with a top leap of 38-4.25.

Grant Bradley was fourth in the 3,000m run, crossing the line in 8:24.80 to add five team points to the Tiger total. Aaron Mangan also picked up five team points with a fourth-place finish in the 800m run with a time of 1:51.46.

Albright added team points in two individual events, finishing seventh in both the 200m dash finals (21.72) and the 400m dash finals (48.18). Kaden Wren and Xavier Robinson rounded out the team scoring for the Tigers, with Wren finishing seventh in the 600y run (1:12.57) and Robinson ranking eighth in the triple jump (46-11).

The Tigers will now await the announcement of selections for the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, set to be released Tuesday evening (Feb. 28). Those selected will travel to Virginia Beach, Va. March 10-11.
