The Tigers are one of two unbeaten men's teams remaining in the MIAA, joining Rogers State (5-0). Half of the 14 teams in the MIAA have one loss or less. Washburn has seen a tough start to the season at 3-3, dealing with a few injury issues. The Ichabods were picked to finish second in the MIAA and held a preseason national ranking of No. 11 in both the NABC and D2SIDA National Top 25 Polls. Two of Washburn's losses this season were against teams that have already seen time in either the NABC or D2SIDA national Top 25 polls.

The Tigers will be looking to halt a six-game losing streak to the Ichabods, which runs back to the 2016-17 season. Washburn has won the last two meetings between the teams in Topeka.

Fort Hays State has the nation's top scoring defense and top field goal percentage defense in NCAA Division II entering this contest. The Tigers are allowing just 46.8 points per game and a .326 shooting percentage through four games. FHSU has the second-best 3-point field goal percentage defense, allowing just a 22.1 percent success rate beyond the arc.

Jared Vitztum continues to lead the Tigers at 11.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Kaleb Hammeke (10.8) and Nyjee Wright (10.3) are also averaging double figures in scoring. Wright and Quinten Rock are tied for the team lead in assists, each at 3.3 per game. The Tigers have 10 players averaging at least four points per game this season.
