91-year-old Kansas man hospitalized after pickup, semi crash

SMITH COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just after 8:30a.m. Friday in Smith County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2016 Peterbilt semi driven by  Joshua A. Douglas, 31, Henderson, Kentucky, was northbound on U.S. 281 at Court Street.

The driver failed to stop at the stop sign and struck an eastbound 2018 GMC Sierra driven by 91-year-old Lovelle Marvin Kirchhoff of Smith Center, on the passenger side. The impact pushed the pickup into the northeast corner of the intersection.

EMS transported Kirchhoff to the Smith County Hospital. Douglas was not injured. Kirchhoff was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
