Hays Fire Department
On April 13, at approximately 8:19 a.m. the Hays Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire located at 700 East 6th Street in Hays.
Hays Fire Department responded and found a fire had started on the outside and extended into the home.
The fire damaged the wooden porch of the mobile home and extended underneath the floor.
Firefighters used an attack line to extinguish the fire. All utilities had been shut off by emergency personnel.
The damage to the home was minimal, but the occupants were unable to return to the home.
The home was occupied at the time. No injuries from the occupants or first responders were reported.
The cause of the fire is ruled accidental and was started by an improperly discarded cigarette.
