After decades of serving students and families, Wilson Elementary rang its bell for the final time during on Saturday.
Through a come-and-go event, the school opened its doors and allowed the community one last chance to tour the now-empty hallways and classrooms before the building officially closed. Ahead of its closing, Hays USD 489 shared a statement on Facebook:
"Though the building may change and new chapters will begin, the heart of Wilson Elementary will continue. The spirit lives on in the lessons learned, the friendships made, and the countless lives shaped within its walls."
Generations of staff and students reconnected, sharing stories and reminiscing on the past. Old yearbooks and faculty photos were on display as vintage videos from Wilson’s history played on a monitor.
Wilson students will move to Felten Elementary School, formerly Hays Middle School, which is being renovated. The district plans to use the 2026-27 school year to renovate Wilson into an administrative building.
