KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today they have hired Connor Dawson to serve as a Hitting Coach on the Major League staff. He will work closely with Alec Zumwalt, Kansas City’s Sr. Director of Hitting Performance and Hitting Coach.
Dawson, 32, spent the last four seasons as a Hitting Coach with the Milwaukee Brewers. During his tenure with Milwaukee, the Brewers offense ranked 7th in Major League Baseball with an average of 4.69 runs per game. In 2025, the Brewers ranked tied for 2nd in the Majors in team batting average (.258) and on-base percentage (.332) and 3rd in runs per game (4.98).
Dawson is a 2012 graduate of Olathe North High School in Kansas, which is about 25 miles Southwest of Kauffman Stadium. He played collegiately at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan.
His coaching career began in 2015, when he coached the Kansas City Bullets college prep baseball program and was the Hitting Coach and the Strength Coach at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kan. He spent one year as the Hitting and Pitching Coach at Marshalltown Community College in Iowa in 2019.
Later in 2019, he joined the Seattle Mariners organization as a Hitting Coach for their Arizona Rookie League team. In 2020, he was a Hitting Strategist at the Mariners Alternate Training Site, and in 2021, he became Seattle’s Minor League Hitting Coordinator.
The Royals expect to add another coach to the hitting department soon.
