GOVE COUNTY—Five people were injured in an accident just before 3p.m. Friday in Gove County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2017 Toyota Camry driven by Gary L. Smith, 74, Topeka, was eastbound on Interstate 70 three and one half miles west of Kansas 198. As the Toyota approached a 2015 Infiniti QX80 in the driving lane, Smith performed an avoidance maneuver to the right. The Toyota struck the passenger rear of the Infinit's trailer.  After impact, the SUV became unstable, slid sideways and came to rest on the driver's side in the ditch.

EMS transported the Infiniti driver Richard Anthony Villegas, 52, and passengers in the SUV Jessie Maxine Villegas, 52; a 7-year-old boy, 2-year-old boy and a baby girl all from Colorado to Gove County Medical Center.

Smith was not injured. All six were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
