A Hays juvenile was arrested on charges of 11 counts of aggravated arson for a fire at a Hays apartment complex Thursday.
A couch was set on fire.
Eleven people were in the complex at the time of the fire, said Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler. They had to be evacuated. At least one person was taken to the hospital in serious condition to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The juvenile was arrested and transported to detention on Thursday, Scheibler said. The suspect's name was not released.
The Hays Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in an apartment complex at 527 E. Eighth Thursday at 8:28 p.m.
On arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the apartment.
The fire was quickly brought under control and damage was limited to the apartment where the fire originated.
