⚾ Larks rally past Angels to remain unbeaten

HAYS – The Hays Larks score a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh and rally from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Gameday Angels 5-4 to stay undefeated Thursday night at Larks Park.

The Angels (3-6) scored four in the fourth off reliever Ty Schmeidler. The Larks started their comeback an inning later when Cade Green scored on a Braden Cox sacrifice fly. Cooper Holtorf scored on a wild pitch and Trent Baker on a sacrifice fly to close the gap to 4-3 in the sixth.

Austin Crawford led off the seventh with a home run to tie the game, the Larks then took the lead on Trent Baker’s groundout which scored Cox.

Rayner Beene (1-0) pitched a scoreless seventh inning and picked up his first win of the season. Hunter Cowgill pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth with one hit and three strikeouts for the save.

Four Larks pitchers combined to strike out 10 batters while allowing only one walk. The Larks fanned 38 with only six walks in the three-game series.

Seven different Larks all had one hit with Crawford, Baker, Dylan LaRue and Cox each driving in a run. The Larks stoke six bases with Green and Cox both swiping two.

The Larks host the Newton Rebels in a non-league game Friday night at 7:00 p.m. They are off Saturday then close out the homestand with a non-league game against the Dodge City A’s Sunday.
