Warm and windy start to week leads to more wildfire warnings

A warm and windy start to the work week has led the National Service in Dodge City to warn of a critical fire risk across western Kansas Monday and Tuesday.

The highs will be in the mid- to upper-80s Monday and Tuesday. Winds in the Hays area will be sustained at 10 to 20 mph, gusting to 40 mph by Tuesday evening.

The mercury will begin to dip by the early morning hours Thursday, when there is a 30 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms. The high Thursday is expected to be in the mid-60s, with a high in the mid-50s by Friday.

There is a 20 percent chance of precipitation in the early morning hours Friday, as well.
