Incumbents Shaun Musil, a Nex-Tech employee, and Sandy Jacobs, a retired banker, were the top two vote-getters for the Hays City Commission, according to the unofficial results from Tuesday's local election.

The third open seat will go to newcomer David Vilaysing. A retired officer with the Hays Police Department and owner of DXI Training Solutions for first responders, Vilaysing beat out the remaining candidates, including incumbent Reese Barrick.

Musil and Jacobs will serve four-year terms while Vilaysing will serve a two-year term.

The trio will be sworn into office during the first regular commission meeting in January when the governing body will also be reorganized.

Choitz, Allen and Ancar did not actively campaign for a seat.

The balloting still must be canvassed by the Ellis County Commission. Voter turnout was 22.56%.
