HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State men's soccer team jumped into the win column on Sunday (Sept. 5), holding on to defeat MSU Denver by a score of 1-0. The Tigers scored in the first half and were able to hold off the Roadrunner attack for the entire second half posting their first clean sheet of the season.
The lone Tiger score came at the 25th minute of action where a cross from Michael Samuel found the head of Theo Bennetts, which soared into to the top left corner of the goal. The Tigers outshot the Roadrunners 10-7. The FHSU defense was rock solid and made it so keeper Kieran Brown had to only save two shots for his first win of the season.
Next week the Tigers head to Kansas City for a pair of non-conference matches with Maryville (Sept. 8) and Rockhurst (Sept. 12). The match with Maryville on Wednesday will be on neutral ground at Swope Soccer Village, while the contest later in the week is a true road contest at Rockhurst University just a few miles to the west of where the Tigers will play their neutral match.
