GARDEN CITY – The Hays High boys tennis team tied for third at the Western Athletic Conference meet Tuesday. The Indians scored four points and tied with Great Bend and Liberal. Garden City won the team title with 15 points. Dodge City finished second with 13 points.
Garden City’s Logan Morren was the WAC Player of the Year and the Buffs Logan Bevis was named WAC Coach of the Year.
The Indians No. 1 Doubles team of Henry Fitzthum and Ryan Shuckman went 2-2 and finished third. They lost 8-3 to Bryce Moore and Chris Velez of Dodge City and 8-7 (5) to Garden City’s Charles Stillian and Abraham Hernadez. They beat Malaki Wasson and Shiv Tushal of Great Bend 8-2 then 8-6 over Hudson Brown and Cristobal Sanchez of Liberal.
Colin Clark went 1-3 at No. 2 singles and finished fourth. He beat Jordan Manning of Great Bend 8-2. His losses were 8-5 to Conner Stukenholtz of Dodge City, 8-5 to Colin Kleysteuber of Garden City and 8-4 to Liberal’s Ivan Armendariz.
The No. 2 Doubles team of Edgar Alonso and Logan Daniels also finished 1-3 and in fourth place. Their win was over Brandon Ngueyan and Daniel Nguyan of Liberal, 8-2. They lost 8-7 (2) to Dodge City’s Aron Ponce and Oscar Arzage, 8-5 to Garden City’s John Tran and Joshua Negron and 8-6 to Carlos Jacobo and Caden Bieker of Great Bend.
