HAYS — The TMP-Marian softball team advanced to the regional semifinals Monday with a 15-0 win over Elkhart/Rolla at TMP.
TMP (25-2) starter Bria Windholz allowed a one-out single in the top of the first inning, then retired seven straight batters to cap three shutout innings with four strikeouts for her 12th win of the season.
The Monarchs totaled 15 runs on 11 hits over three innings.
TMP got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning on a Brynn Schoeph RBI single and a two-run home run by Brynn Rebel — her 10th home run of the season — for a 3-0 lead.
The Monarchs added another run on an error for a 4-0 lead after one inning.
Elkhart committed back-to-back errors to open the second inning, allowing TMP to extend the lead to 5-0.
Rebel added an RBI single and later scored on an error to make it 7-0.
Paige Koenigsman followed with an inside-the-park home run for an 8-0 lead.
With two outs in the inning, Raegan Allen singled home the final run of the frame as TMP took a 9-0 lead.
After recording two quick outs in the top of the third inning, TMP’s offense erupted for six runs.
Koenigsman singled home the first run of the inning before TMP added another on a passed ball. Piper Simpson then doubled home two runs to make it 13-0.
Katie Herrman capped the Monarchs’ run-rule victory with a two-run single as TMP secured the 15-0 win in three innings.
Rebel finished 3 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.
The Monarchs will face either Sylvan-Lucas or South Sumner in the second semifinal Wednesday at TMP.
On the other side of the bracket, Stanton County defeated Ell-Saline 10-0 and will face either Sterling or Ellinwood in the first semifinal Wednesday at TMP.
