Charles Eugene “Chuck” Herbers, 69, of Ogallah, KS, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston, TX.
Chuck was born on September 26, 1956, at St. Mary’s Hospital to Sylvester and Pauline (Frischenmeyer) Herbers. He graduated from Winfield High School and was recruited to play both football and baseball at Cowley County Community College.
On June 25, 1976, Chuck married Linda Branine at Holy Name Catholic Church. Together they built a home centered on faith, love, hard work, and laughter. Chuck spent many years farming alongside family and later worked in management before joining MudCo Inc., where he worked for the past 18 years. He was respected for his strong work ethic, leadership, and willingness to help others. Those closest to him knew him as a steady, dependable presence who cared deeply for family and friends.
Chucks love of sports continued throughout his life, not only as a fan but also as a mentor and coach. Chuck spent many years coaching youth football and American Legion baseball, generously giving his time and encouragement to young athletes and their families. He rarely missed a game, school event, or opportunity to support someone he loved. Whether hunting, fishing, restoring an old car, visiting around the table, or cheering from the stands, Chuck made people feel welcome, valued, and cared for. He especially enjoyed time outdoors and shared a special bond with his dogs who were companions through many of life’s adventures; though his favorite place was always wherever his family gathered.
Chuck lived his faith quietly and faithfully. He was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and led by example through his loyalty, humility, and devotion to others. Above all, Chuck was a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love for his family was constant and generous, and the memories he created with them will be treasured always.
Chuck is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda; his children, Chad Herbers, Stacy Logue (Grant), and Kelli Herbers-Schmidt (Eric); grandchildren, Teagan, Layne, Taryn, Alyssa, Kaley, Jace, Elon, Catherine, Evelyn, and Sophia; great-grandchild, Baylor; brothers, Don Herbers (Mona), Tom Herbers (Shirley), sister-in-law, Sonya Herbers, and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Larry and Robert Herbers.
In remembrance of Chuck, take a moment to share a cup of coffee, extend an act of kindness, and pay it forward as he often did. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Name Catholic Church. Offer condolences and share a memory at
