UPDATE: Ice likely in Hays area as wintry weather moves in

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Ellis County and several counties to the north and west of Hays.

Light rain or freezing drizzle is expected  to arrive in the early morning hours Thursday, continuing to noon Thursday. No other precipitation is forecast in the area  until a slight chance of showers Monday night.

Widespread dense fog is also expected Thursday morning.

The NWS is predicting a more than 90 percent of ice accumulation in Hays, with the greatest risk of ice on the Interstate 70 corridor.

While less than a tenth of an inch of accumulation is expected, the  NWS is warning of potentially slick roadways and bridges.

The high Wednesday is expected to reach the low-50s, with a high in the upper-40s to mid-50s through the weekend.
