The first snow of 2022 brought four inches of the white stuff to Hays over the New Year's holiday weekend.
According to official statistics from the K-State Agricultural Research Center south of town, an even four inches of snow was measured Sunday with 1.2 inches of that snow falling Saturday.
The precipitation yield was a total of 0.27.
A winter weather warning was in effect for much of western Kansas due to blowing snow and dangerously cold temperatures.
The overnight low in Hays on Saturday was -11 degrees, just missing the record of -12 degrees set on January 1, 1912.
Temperatures will be warmer for the start of the work week. The three-day weather forecast calls for highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s.
