⚾ Larks open homestand with win over Liberal

HAYS - The Hays Larks needed just one big inning to extend their winning ways Monday night.

The Larks scored three runs on their only three hits of the game in the sixth inning, rallying for a 3-2 victory over the Liberal Bee Jays in a non-league matchup at Larks Park.

Hays (20-2) was out-hit 7-3 and committed three errors but received another strong pitching performance to secure the win.

The Bee Jays (14-8-1) took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the third before the Larks answered in the sixth. Cade Green tied the game with a solo home run, Cooper Holtorf followed with a go-ahead RBI double to center that scored courtesy runner Max Flowers, and Hutch Russell capped the rally with a two-out RBI double to bring home Holtorf for a 3-1 lead.

Liberal trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with a run in the seventh but managed just one hit over the final three innings.

Ty Schmeidler (3-0) earned the win in relief, allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out five and walking one over 3 1/3 innings.

Starter Ty Parker allowed one run on three hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking four. Rayner Beene added 1 1/3 scoreless innings before Max Hendrix worked around a one-out single in the ninth to earn the save.

UP NEXT

The Larks and Bee Jays continue the three-game series with a RMBL contest Tuesday night at Larks Park. The first-place Larks are a four-game lead over Liberal in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League.
