⚽ No. 21 Bearcats turn away Tigers with two second-half goals

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Fort Hays State fell to Northwest Missouri State by a score of 2-0 on Friday afternoon. The Bearcats scored a pair of second half goals to take the match on their home field. NWMSU moved to 8-3-0 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA, while FHSU moved to 3-8-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the MIAA.

The Tigers had plenty of scoring opportunities, placing 10 shots on target in the match. However, they were all saved by Lily Ellis, who earned the shutout in net for the Bearcats. FHSU outshot NWMSU 20-12 overall in the match.

FHSU led the shot count in the first half 9-6. Both Ellis and Tiger keeper Hadley Ostrander had three saves in the opening half.

Northwest Missouri broke through in the 53rd minute on a goal by Addy Armstrong. McKenna West extended the lead with a goal in the 77th minute. Both were NWMSU's only shots on goal in the second half.

Cotter led Fort Hays with six shots, three of which were on goal. Ostrander finished with three saves overall.

Next up for Fort Hays State will be a match against Missouri Western on Sunday (Oct. 19) in St. Joseph. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
