⛳ Tigers 8th at MIAA Championship, Rader and Nichols finish in top 25

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – The Fort Hays State men's golf team closed out their 2021-22 season with an eighth place finish at the MIAA Championship, held at the WinterStone Golf Course.

The tournament was shortened to two days with two rounds on Monday and one on Tuesday due to the weather forecast for Wednesday.

Jackson Rader and Dustin Nichols both finished in the top 25.

Rader led the Tigers with a 13-over par, 229 and placed 22nd. Rader shot rounds of 80 and 75 on Monday and closed with a 2-over, 74 on Tuesday. He carded three birdies in both the second and third rounds.

Nichols finished one stroke behind Rader and tied for 24th place. After rounds of 76 and 79 on Monday, he closed with a 3-over, 75 on Tuesday with pars on 14 of the final 18 holes.

Parker Krob tied Rader for the lowest round for the Tigers with a 74 in the second round. Krob tied for 35th (+21, 237). Bryce Cowan finished in 37th (+22, 238), Tanner Copeland finished 41st (+27, 243)

Matt Hoemann of Central Missouri took home medalist honors at the tournament at 3-under par overall. He was the only golfer in the field to finish under par for the tournament. His  3-under 69 in the final round was the lowest round for any golfer in the tournament.

Former Hays High standout Tradjon McCrae closed with an 80 on Tuesday and tied for 13th at 9-over. The Missouri Southern golfer had rounds of 74 and 71 on Monday.

Rogers State easily took home the team title at 11-over par. Central Missouri was 16 strokes back in second, while Missouri Southern was 18 strokes back in third.

Fort Hays State remained eighth in the standings from the end of the first round all the way through to the completion of the tournament, finishing at +61 (925). The Tigers were 45 strokes better than Lincoln and 46 better than Newman.
