RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Fort Hays State goalkeeper Payton Roehrich was named the GAC Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 8) for his play during a 1-0-1 week for the Tigers. This is the third GAC Goalkeeper of the Week honor the sophomore has claimed overall, now in his second year at FHSU.
Roehrich put together a solid week in goal, with his only goal allowed on a penalty kick opportunity. He picked up his first individual shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over William Jewell in Hays. Roehrich kept Fort Lewis scoreless in a neutral site match until the 82nd minute when a penalty kick opportunity spoiled his bid for a second shutout and FHSU had to settle for a draw. However, he notched a career-high seven saves in the contest with Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks, receiving votes last week, entered the national rankings this week at No. 12.
The Tigers have claimed two GAC weekly honors so far this season after Francisco Degiorgi was named the Offensive Player of the Week after the first week of the season. FHSU goes on the road to Texas for a pair of matches this week.
Roehrich joined Carter Adams of Northeastern State (Offensive Player of the Week) and Alex Laing of Rogers State (Defensive Player of the Week) as the weekly honorees from the conference office.
