Eastbound I-70 now open between Colby and Oakley after injury crash

THOMAS COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 1a.m. Tuesday in Thomas County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2019 Freightliner semi driven by Harry Bhardwaj, 34, Lawrenceville, Georgia, was  eastbound on Interstate 70 five miles west of U.S. 83. The semi struck the left rear trailer of an eastbound 2017 Freightliner semi driven by Jacobo S. Guzman Huizel, 56, Greeley, Colorado, who was traveling approximately 60 mph. After impact,  the 2017 Freightliner came to rest blocking both eastbound lanes of the Interstate.

EMS transported Bhardwaj to the  Logan County Hospital. Huizel was not injured.  Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the KHP.

Eastbound Interstate 70 is closed between Colby and Oakley due to a vehicle crash blocking the roadway, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation.
