Carol Ann (Walters) Rupp

Carol Ann (Walters) Rupp, age 78, of Winfield, Kansas peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, after experiencing a stroke.

Carol was born on January 12, 1944, in Hays, Kansas to Celestina (Hertel) Walters and Fidelis A. Walters. She graduated with the first graduating class at Marian High School in 1962, then attended Fort Hays State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Speech Therapy in 1966.

She married Roger Rupp on May 22, 1965, in Hays and later that year moved to Kansas City so that Roger could attend the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry. While in Kansas City, Carol was a speech therapist for the Kansas City, Kansas Public School System. Roger was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve and the family moved to Camp Pendleton, California for a two-year assignment. In June of 1971 the family moved to Winfield.  In Winfield, Carol was a Realtor for Buterbaugh & Handlin Real Estate for many years. After retiring, she enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren.  

Carol was an avid tennis player winning many tournaments at Roger’s dental conventions. She enjoyed watching “Monk” reruns on television and was a number one fan of Neil Diamond, attending many of his concerts. Friends and family will always think of her when they hear a Neil Diamond song, especially “Sweet Carol-ine”.  She showed amazing generosity to her family and friends and was locally famous for her homemade caramel corn and poppy seed bread.

She is survived by her four daughters, Amy Soto and husband Robert, Winfield, KS, Lisa Bailey, Smithville, MO, Suzanne Rupp, Winfield, KS, and Sarah Underhill and husband Chad, Goddard, KS; her sister Iris Lang, Victoria, KS; her brother Richard Walters, Grand Prairie, TX, nine grandchildren (Dan Whitaker, Jessica Soto, Anthony Soto, Lucas and Avery Underhill, William and Lillian Bailey, Michael and Henry Granoski), and one great-granddaughter Dravyn Carson. In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Rupp and two sisters, Erma Verhage and Lucida Sullivan. 

A visitation will be from 10:00 - 10:45 A.M. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, in the Parish Hall at Holy Name Catholic Church, 412 E 8th Ave. in Winfield, Kansas.  Rosary will follow at 10:45 A.M., then Mass at 11:15 A.M.  Lunch and inurnment will immediately follow the service.
