The Ellis County Conservation District has selected VonFeldt Farming LLC for the recipient of the 2022 Conservation Award.
VonFeldt Farming LLC is a partnership between Steve and Teri VonFeldt and Scott and Rachel VonFeldt. Steve and Scott are equal partners in the LLC.
The VonFeldt farming operation originated with Steve’s grandfather, Frank VonFeldt. The farm operations have passed from generation to generation over the years since Frank VonFeldt started the farming operation. The farm operation passed to Arthur VonFeldt from his father Frank. From Arthur, the farming operation passed to Steve. Operation of the farm is now in the hands of Steve and his son, Scott.
VonFeldt Farming LLC operations consist of raising wheat, sorghum, corn, and fallow. Wheat is raised in a minimum-till environment with corn and sorghum raised in a no-till environment. The VonFeldt’s will be using soil tests going forward to manage fertilizer cost in their farming operation.
Steve and Scott utilize conservation district programs to meet the conservation needs on both owned and rented land.
During the past five years or so, VonFeldt Farming LLC has installed and maintained many miles of terraces. When there is need for new terraces and waterways, conservation district programs are utilized to address these needs. In the period from the completion of fall crops harvest to the beginning of spring crop preparation, Steve utilizes a tractor with an attached grader blade to perform maintenance on existing terraces.
Going forward, VonFeldt Farming LLC will continue to utilize conservation programs to provide conservation on owned and rented land. Steve and Scott believe in and support the benefits of conservation practices on the land. They exhibit a passion for conservation practices in their farming practices.
Ellis County Conservation District is proud to present the 2021 Conservation Award to VonFeldt Farming LLC.
