Susan Shupe, 78, died on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at her home in Lane
County. She was born on July 3, 1944, in Barton County the daughter of
George Adam & Christine Catherine (Stremel) Hejny. She married Boyd
A. Shupe on June 1, 1963, at Olmitz.
Susan grew up in rural Barton County and graduated from Hoisington High
School in 1962. Shortly after her marriage she and her husband moved to
Lane County. She worked many jobs in the area including a nurse aide,
Calico Apron Café, Dighton Bowl and Prime Pork. She enjoyed embroidery,
sewing, baking, growing flowers and house plants. She was a vendor at
Farmer’s Markets where she sold products from her large garden, bee
hives and eggs.
Susan was a member of St Theresa Catholic Church in Dighton where she
was very active in the Altar Society, serving many funeral dinners and
was a former Regent in the Daughters Of Isabella and was a Religious
Education Teacher. She was a 4-H Project Leader and was proud of being a
blood donor of over 13 gallons.
She is survived by her Husband- Boyd Shupe, 6 Daughters- Leona
Kuntzelman of Puerto Morelos, Mexico, Malinda & Shane Greene of
Tomah, Wisconsin, Michelle Shupe of Dighton, Lisa & Aaron Conine of
Dighton, Melissa Shupe & Steve Gormley of Grinnell and Janie &
Chris Howard of Ulysses, Son- Arden Shupe of Scott City, 3 Brothers-
George & Dixie Hejny of Great Bend, Don & Roberta Hejny of La
Mesa, California and Leonard Hejny of Gorham, 3 Sisters- Esther
Tattershall of Fruita, Colorado, Alice & Max Copple of Miltonvale
and Helen & Richard Ackerman of Concordia, Missouri, 18
Grandchildren and 17 Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her Parents and 2 Brothers- Edward Hejny and Ralph Hejny.
Vigil Service will be at 7:00 PM Tuesday and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM
Wednesday both at St Theresa Catholic Church in Dighton with Rev Warren
Stecklein and Rev Don Bedore as Celebrants. Burial will be in Dighton
Memorial Cemetery.
