
Paul Deines passed away on February 17, 2021, at Trego County-Lemke
Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, Kansas, at the age of 98. He was born on
February 12, 1923, to David and Elizabeth (Dietz) Deines on the family
homestead in rural Barton County near Galatia, Kansas.
Paul attended school in Galatia until his family moved to Trego
County in 1939. He graduated from Trego Community High School with the
Class of 1940. He then attended Barton County Community College where he
took business classes for one year before returning to work on the
family farm. Paul married Helen Fabrizius on January 21, 1945 at Zion
Lutheran Church, Trego Center. They were blessed with two children,
Elizabeth Ann and Mark David.
Paul spent his working years farming and ranching. He was a member
of Zion Lutheran Church where he was the financial secretary and served
on the church council for many years. He was a lifetime member of the
American Historical Society of Germans from Russia International, and a
charter member of the Sunflower Chapter of Hays.
Left to cherish Paul’s memories are his daughter, Elizabeth and
husband Richard Deines of Trego County; two grandchildren, Emily Deines
of Overland Park, Kansas and Brent Deines of WaKeeney; two
great-grandchildren, Emma Deines and Aaliyah Deines; and many nieces and
nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; son, Mark David
Deines; and siblings, Marie Wilhelm, Tabea Fabrizius, Louis Deines,
Herbert Deines, Racheal Fabrizius, Ella Fabrizius, and Emil Deines.
A funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church at Trego
Center on Monday, February 22, 2021, at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at
the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at
Zion.
