KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Fort Hays State men's basketball team finished alone in second in the MIAA regular season standings and will be the No. 2 seed in the MIAA Tournament, presented by Southern Bank, next week in Kansas City at Municipal Auditorium. They will take on either No. 7 seed Emporia State or No. 10 seed Lincoln in the quarterfinals Thursday night (Mar. 7) at 8:15 pm.
The top 10 teams in the final regular season standings qualify for the tournament. The No. 7-through-10 seeds play first-round games on Wednesday, then the top six seeds will open play in the quarterfinals with two games on Thursday and two more on Friday. Both semifinal games will be played on Saturday before the championship game on Sunday.
This is the third-straight year the Tigers have finished among the top three in the conference. The Tigers were third each of the previous two seasons before finishing second this season. Fort Hays State finished the regular season 22-6 overall and 17-5 in the MIAA. The 17 wins matched the Tigers' most in MIAA play, also accomplished in 2021-22.
Emporia State finished the season 19-11 overall, 12-10 in the MIAA, while Lincoln was 14-14 overall and 9-13 in the MIAA.
If the Tigers advance to the semifinals on Saturday, they would again play at 8:15 pm. against either No. 3 seed Pittsburg State or No. 6 seed Central Oklahoma.
Fans can still take advantage of discounted all-session passes for the 2024 tournament by stopping by the Fort Hays State athletics offices before Wednesday (March 6) at noon. All-session passes are just $60 when purchased through the athletic department but will be $85 at the box office.
