Following the departure of Ellis City Council member Sam Polifka, the governing body is looking for someone to serve the remainder of the term.
Polifika’s announced his intention to leave the council at the meeting on Aug. 3, and his final meeting was Monday.
He told the council he was resigning the position as he will be leaving the to join the U.S. Army.
“I thank you for allowing me to serve and work with you all,” Polifka said in a letter to the council.
The council and Ellis Mayor Dave McDaniel shared their gratitude for his time on the council and for his future service in the military.
“We appreciate what you have done,” McDaniel said.
McDaniel told the council he hopes to have the replacement to be ready to be in place by their next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
“It needs to be done as quickly as possible,” McDaniel said.
He said he would like anyone interested in serving to speak with him directly.
“I would like to have people come to me and request if they are interested in serving on the city council,” McDaniel said.
He said having interested parties approach him is easier then trying to find someone in the city for the position.
“I’ve had a couple of names already,” McDaniel said. “Let’s see what is out there.”
Once McDaniel appoints a person to the position, the council will approve the appointment.
The term will end next November.
