The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory Thursday evening for Ellis and Trego counties until 9 a.m. Friday.
And the overnight low temperature in Hays matched the record low for Oct. 1.
According to the official report from the K-State Agricultural Research Center, the mercury dipped to 33 degrees overnight, tying the low temperature for the date first set just 16 years ago in 2004.
The weekend weather forecast is calling for slightly warmer temperatures.
