MARYVILLE, Mo. — Fort Hays State fell to Northwest Missouri State in straight sets on Saturday (Oct. 10). The Bearcats took the match by scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-17. The Bearcats moved to 7-10 overall and 4-3 in the MIAA, while the Tigers are now 14-8 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA.
Northwest Missouri State built separation with scoring runs in each set, steadily pulling away in the first, along with a pair of six-point runs early in the second and third sets. The Tigers hit .137 for the match, while Northwest Missouri finished at .354. The Bearcats had only one attacking error in the first set, none in the second, and four in the third, finishing with 51 kills and just five errors.
Ella Goodwin led the Tigers with 11 kills, hitting .290 in the match. Ashlyn Reeves reached double figures with 10 kills and hit .400. Annie Eaton distributed 27 assists, while adding a team-best 15 digs. Haylee Wolf finished with 13 digs.
Gabrielle Gartner led NWMSU with 12 kills, followed by Sophia Gartner with 11 and Abby Bulthuis with 10. Ellery Luhring recorded 20 digs.
The Tigers will go to St. Joseph, Mo., next weekend (Oct. 16-17) for a pair of non-conference matches against nationally ranked Washburn and Missouri Western.
