James W. Wedermyer

James W. Wedermyer, age 89, of Goodland passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020.  Jim was born on September 21, 1930 to V.V. and Emma (Mummert) Wedermyer in Hays, Kansas. 

Jim grew up in Trego County. He attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from Trego County High School in 1948.  He married Kathryn Neff on August 5, 1951 in WaKeeney, Kansas.  To this union four children, Patti Lynn, Douglas Dean, Vicki Lea and David James.  They farmed and raised livestock in Trego County until moving to Goodland in the fall of 1972, where he worked as a district manager for Moorman Feed Company for 23 years until retiring in 1993.  Jim then opened Jim's Super Saw Sharpening Shop and worked for FSA measurement service.  

Jim was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, Methodist Men, the original Genesis Committee, Sherman County Carousel Committee, and the Men’s BS coffee group.  He enjoyed attending and helping with anything at the Methodist Church. He loved to square dance, watch Nascar, baseball and spend time with family and friends.  He dearly loved each one of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After moving to Goodland, Jim and Kathryn were foster parents to approximately 30 children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; daughter, Vicki Lea; sister, Virginia Hager; and brother-in-laws, Darrold Hager and John Kirkland. 

Jim is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughter, Patti Lynn Gray of Prairie Village, KS; son, Douglas Dean (Sandra) Wedermyer of WaKeeney, KS; son, David James (Laura) Wedermyer of Gainsville, VA; foreign exchange son, Preecha (Kanokkan) Sudhikam, Bangkok, Thailand; siblings, Melvin (Bev) Wedermyer of Topeka, KS, Clara Ann Kirkland of Waycross, GA, Jerry (Kay) Wedermyer of WaKeeney, KS, Larry (Eunice) of Lyndon, KS.   Grandchildren, Traci (Jason) Ketter, Michael (Gina) Wedermyer, Staci (Mike) Kessinger, DeAnne (Cody) Spencer, Michelle (Duane) Heinrich, Bradley Haas; Christopher (Sarah) Geeseka; Lindsey Geeseka, Landon (Laura) Wedermyer, Alison (Evan) Koch, Ryan (Jessica) Wedermyer; fifteen great-grandchildren with 2 more expected to arrive this fall; and many more family and friends.
