A high wind watch is in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon for Hays and surrounding counties, according to the National Weather Service.
Affected counties include Trego, Ellis, Scott, Lane, Ness, Rush, Hamilton, Kearny, Finney, Hodgeman, Pawnee, Stafford, Gray, Ford and Edwards.
Northwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are possible.
Areas of blowing dust are likely. Please exercise caution when driving past open fields, as visibility could quickly fall to one-half mile or less over very short distances.
The National Weather Service advises that loose objects should be fastened or secured in a safe location before the onset of winds.
Winds today could gust to 33 mph with a high forecast of 61.
The forecast high for Hays on Thursday is 49.
