Fort Hays State University’s Departments of Mathematics and Computer Science hosted its 46th annual Math Relays on Nov. 13 in the Memorial Union, welcoming a large field of competitors.
More than 650 students from 50 Kansas high schools, representing classifications from 1A to 6A, spent the day testing their skills across six mathematics challenges. The subject-based tests assessed number sense, trigonometry, algebraic manipulation, geometric measurement, word problems, and calculator-based problem-solving.
Schools competed in three divisions based on size (1A, 2–3A, and 4–6A). Students participated individually or in teams of three, with all competitors completing at least four of the six tests.
Points were awarded to the top six individuals and teams at each grade level. Medals were presented to the top three finishers in each event, and plaques were awarded to the top three schools in each division.
The top 10 results, including individual, team, and school rankings for the 2025 FHSU Math Relays, are available here.
“We are always excited to host the Math Relays,” said Bill Weber, FHSU associate professor of mathematics. “The students and their teachers bring so much enthusiasm to the event; it’s so fun to walk the halls of the Memorial Union and hear students talking about solving math problems.”
