
Carol Nurse Vester, 84, died April 2, 2022, after a long battle with IPF. She was born January 16, 1938, in rural Barber County, KS, to Walter Scott and Ethel (Hunt) Nurse.
Carol attended schools in Barber County and graduated from Oklahoma State University (OSU). She was a member of and strong supporter of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority at OSU and maintained a close relationship with her ‘sisters’. Carol was a school teacher in Stafford and Tribune, KS. While living in Reno County, she taught at the Fairfield schools and Nickerson Reno Valley school system, before retiring in 2005. Carol taught girls’ physical education, health, coached tennis, and retired as a librarian and media specialist. She was cherished and loved by many of her students and associates during her career in education.
On August 25, 1963, Carol married Richard H. Vester. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage this August. Their son, R. Scott Vester, was born January 26, 1969, in Tribune, KS.
Carol and Richard were active members of the Winnebago RV clubs and enjoyed the camaraderie of the many lifelong friends made with a wonderful variety of people. She especially enjoyed the Winnebago caravan to Alaska.
Carol is survived by: her husband of the home; son, Scott of Los Angeles, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and of course, her beloved students.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Betty DeMint; and brothers, Marvin M. Nurse and Jack D. Nurse.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Elliott Mortuary. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
