LILBURN, Ga. - Despite picking up two more wins last weekend at the Newman Classic to start the season 4-0, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team dipped one spot to No. 4 in the latest WBCA Division II Coaches Poll, released Tuesday (Nov. 25) by the coaches association.
The Tigers actually accumulated more points in the balloting process this week than they did last week when they were ranked third, tallying 474 points this week compared to 446 a week ago.
But a road win over a team in the receiving votes category was enough to jump Coker from No. 4 last week into a tie for second this week. Defending national champion Grand Valley State still tops the poll, while MIAA foe Pittsburg State is the school tied with Coker for second. Minnesota State Mankato rounds out the top five, giving the Central Region three of the top five teams in the nation.
The Tigers are 18-2 all-time when ranked fourth in the national poll. FHSU was last ranked fourth entering the postseason in the 2021-22 season, with the Tigers reaching the regional final as the top seed in the Central Region that year. FHSU was ranked fourth in the poll three times that season, going 8-1 when ranked in that spot.
Fort Hays State is 189-58 all-time when ranked, including a 75-17 record when slotted inside the top five and a 135-28 record when ranked in the top 10.
The Tigers are on the road in Denver to take on UCCS today (5 p.m./4 p.m. MT) and MSU Denver on Wednesday (Nov. 26, 4 p.m./3 p.m. MT).
