A grass fire was reported on Monday near the Hays City Sportsmen’s Club gun field and Celebration Community Church.

Ellis County Fire Chief Darin Myers said the call initially reported a structure fire but was later determined to be a grass fire east of the church, 5790 230th Ave.

The fire began around 4 p.m. and was moving north toward the sports activity's buildings at 5810 230th Ave. The fire was brought under control by 5:16 p.m. and no structures were damaged, Myers said.

Hays Fire Department and Ellis County Fire both responded to the scene. No injuries were reported.
