UPDATE: Hays PD and KBI working explosive materials situation

Update 1:00 p.m.

Hays Chief of Police Don Scheibler said two people have been detained in connection with the incident.

While the incident remains under investigation, potential charges include the manufacturing of explosives, drug violations and felons in possession of firearms.

The names of the potential suspects have not been released.

UPDATE 12:35 p.m.

Just after 12:30 p.m., the Hays Police Department announced the explosive material found in the 300 block of West 11th has been removed, giving residents the all-clear to return to the area. Officers continue to work in the area.

UPDATE: 11:41 a.m.

The materials thought to be explosive have been removed from the scene. Law enforcement remains on scene.

UPDATE: 10:35 a.m.

Law enforcement on scene said the explosive materials will be transported from the scene soon.

Law enforcement has several blocks around the area closed to traffic as they continue to work the scene.

Hays Police Department

Hays Police Officers were called to the 300 block of West 11th Street on at 6:47 p.m. Sunday for a disturbance.  

A search warrant was obtained for drug-related items, and explosive materials were located inside the house.  

The scene is being processed by the Kansas Highway Patrol’s Hazardous Devices Unit.  

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation & the Hays Police Department are currently working the criminal investigation. 

For safety purposes, law enforcement asks that all citizens stay out of the area.
