⚾ TMP-Marian splits at Garden City

GARDEN CITY – The TMP-Marian baseball team closed out their regular season with a split with Garden City Thursday at Clint Lightner Field. The Monarchs pulled away late to win the first game 8-5 but couldn’t overcome an early deficit and dropped the nightcap 10-4.

TMP will take an 11-5 record into Monday’s regional opener at home against Ellinwood. The Buffaloes end their regular season at 10-10.

Game 1: TMP-Marian 8, Garden City 5
Jace Wentling hit a 3-run homer with two outs in the top of the fifth to break a 4-4 tie.

Wentling went 3-for-3 with a home run and two doubles and three RBIs. Caden Morgan added two hits and also drove in three.

Both teams scored a run in the seventh.

TMP led 4-1 before the Buffs scored three in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game.

Mark Rack allowed one run on one hit over the final 2 1/3 innings and picked up the win in relief. Starter Caden Morgan allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks over 4 2/3 innings.

Game 2: Garden City 10, TMP-Marian 4
The Buffs struck early with two runs in the first and second then four in the third for an early 8-0 lead.

The Monarchs scored a run in the fourth on a B Conner single. They added two in the fifth on groundouts from Caden Morgan and Nick Helget. Morgan drove in their final run on a groundout in the seventh.

Jace Wentling allowed eight runs on eight hits in 2 1/3 innings and suffered the loss.

Wentling and Mark Rack both had two of the Indians six hits. Caden Morgan drove in two runs.
