The Ellis County Health Department on Wednesday reported a decline in the average number of new coronavirus cases per day in the last seven days — from 17 on Monday to 11 on Wednesday.

The department also reported the fifth virus-related death.

There were 25 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the county since Monday. There are now 148 active cases of coronavirus in Ellis County, including 11 active hospitalizations, and 885 recovered cases.

The seven-day average rate of positive test cases fell from more than 27 percent on Monday to 16.7 percent on Wednesday. Of the 8,296 total tests conducted, 12 percent have returned positive.

Since reporting began, there have been 1,038 cases of COVID-19 identified in Ellis County, including five deaths.

NOTE: "New cases" reflects cases reported by the Ellis County Health Department between regular reporting periods of Monday, Wednesday and Friday. "Total cases" reflects all cases reported by the department. Because of delayed test results, total cases might include cases prior to the previous reporting period, so the figures might not necessarily correspond.
