Antonina Chavez Sotelo, age 84 years, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away on Tuesday afternoon, June 18, 2024 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. Antonina was born on February 2, 1940 at Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico to Favian and Petra (Sotelo) Chavez. She was united in marriage to Rumaldo Garcia in 1962, and he passed away in 2005. Antonina moved to Great Bend in 2008. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing and crocheting, crafts, cooking, traveling, and most importantly spending time with family. Antonina was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Prince of Peace Parish at Great Bend.
Survivors include two sons: Marcelo Garcia of Great Bend and Jose Garcia of Chihuahua, Mexico; seven daughters: Elma Garcia of El Paso, Texas, Dora Garcia of Zacatecas, Mexico, Soledad Garcia of Chihuahua, Mexico, Maricela Garcia of Great Bend, Susana Garcia of Monterrey, N.L., Claudia Garcia of Great Bend and Lizeth Garcia of Chihuahua, Mexico; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; one brother Angel Chavez of Chihuahua, Mexico and two sisters: Angelita Chavez and Magdalena Chavez, both of Chihuahua, Mexico. Antonina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rumaldo Garcia, a son Marcos Garcia, and five sisters: Adelina, Elvira, Rosa, Amada, and Irene Chavez.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 21, 2024 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend with Father Aneesh Parappanattu officiating. Cremation will follow the mass. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend. Arrangements are being entrusted to Charter Funerals of Great Bend, Kansas.
