McPHERSON - The Hays High boys golf team shot their lowest round of the spring but it wasn't good enough to get them into the second day of the 5A State Golf Tournament at the Tukey Creek Golf Course. The Indians shot a 319, 14 shots lower than their best round this season, but needed a 307 to get into the top six.

After the completion of the first 18 holes, the top six team scores and the individuals, not on one of the six teams, that bring the day two field to a total of 54 will qualify for day two.

Hays High did have two individuals make the cut to Tuesday's second round. Senior Blake Buckles shot a career-low 72 and is tied for 11th. Fellow senior Landen Clark fired a 79 and was tied for 46th.

Bishop Carroll shot a 280 and had a 2-stroke lead over Kapuan Mt. Carmel after day one. Golden Eagle freshman Maximus Farber was the clubhouse leader after day one with a 5-under-par 65.
