Fort Hays State University lit up Sheridan Hall, marking the start of a festive evening.

FHSU held its annual tree-lighting ceremony Tuesday, giving students and families a chance to enjoy carriage rides, crafts, glide on a glice rink, sip hot chocolate and hand their Christmas lists to Santa Claus.

Brett Meyer, FHSU director of student engagement, kicked off the event. Cade Becker and Star Parham, 2025 FHSU homecoming king and queen, shared their experience as tigers during the holidays.

President Tisa Mason also addressed attendees, emphasizing that the event was about more than just festive lights as students head into their fall finals.

"The holidays invite us to reflect not only on the challenges that we face, but also on the many accomplishments that we have celebrated together, both individually and as a community," Mason said. "Let us embrace the spirit of gratitude and togetherness as we move into a new year with renewed hope and determination."

Carolers also lifted their voices, leading the crowd in a rendition of “Silent Night.”
