🏀TMP girls rally to beat SE of Saline; boys cruise past Trojans

GYPSUM – The TMP-Marian Monarchs stepped out of league play Saturday afternoon to take on the Southeast of Saline Trojans and both TMP teams picked up the win.

Girls: TMP 39, SE of Saline 36

The TMP Lady Monarchs (16-3, 9-1 MCL) rallied from down 10 in the second half for their sixth win in-a-row 39-36.

Southeast of Saline opened Saturday afternoon’s matchup on a 7-3 first quarter run but TMP’s Emilee Lane and Sophia Balthazor scored nine straight points for TMP helping the Monarchs build a 12-11 lead after the first quarter.

The Trojans (12-6, 7-0 NCAA) regained the lead opening the second quarter with a 6-2 run, taking a 17-14 lead. TMP was able to chip away at the lead and Balthazor’s third three-pointer of the first-half tied the game at 19 with a little more than 2:30 to play.

Southeast of Saline outscored TMP 4-0 over the final two minutes of the first half and extended to run to 10-0 into the third quarter as they built a 29-19 lead.

With four minutes left in the third Emilee Lane converted on back-to-back field goals sparking a 9-0 TMP run that closed the Trojans lead to just one at 29-28 through three quarters.

Southeast of Saline briefly built a four-point lead to open the final period but Balthazor knocked down her fourth three of the game, followed by field goals from Lane and Kassidi Yost TMP lead 35-33.

The Trojans converted a three-point play on their next trip down the floor to take a 36-35 lead but TMP’s Emilee Lane closed out the Trojans with back-to-back field goals clinching the 39-36 win for TMP.

Emilee Lane led all scorers with 19 points. Sophia Balthazor also scored in double-figures for TMP with 14.

Boys: TMP 78, SE of Saline 36

The TMP boys opened the game with a 12-4 run and led wire-to-wire as they cruised for a 78-36 win over Southeast of Saline.

Lucas Lang opened the game with a three-pointer for TMP (16-4, 9-1 MCL), it was the first of 12 the Monarchs would rain in Saturday in the rout of the Trojans.

TMP led 12-4 early and then after Southeast of Saline (11-7, 5-2 NCAA) closed the gap to three at 12-9 TMP’s Jace Wentling scored four straight sparking a 10-2 run to put TMP up 22-11 at the end of the first quarter.

The Monarchs outscored Southeast of Saline 10-1 to open the second quarter and 19-9 in the quarter. Jackson Schulte scored seven of his game-high 26 points in that second quarter and Dylan Werth, Gavin Unrein and Wentling each added four points in the quarter as TMP built a 41-20 halftime lead.

TMP caught fire from behind the arc in the third quarter with Lang and Schulte combining for 21 points on seven made three-pointers. TMP outscored Southeast of Saline 25-7 in their third quarter and led at the point 66-27.

With a running clock in the fourth quarter TMP picked up their seventh win in-a-row 78-36.

Jackson Schulte led all scorers with 26 points for TMP. Lucas Lang finished with 12 points. Kade Harris matched his career-high with 11 points off the bench and Dylan Werth finished with 10 points.

TMP closes out the regular season against Plainville Tuesday night at home.
