Fort Hays State moved into the D2Football.com Top 25 rankings on Monday after its season-opening 21-7 win over Angelo State last week. It's Fort Hays State's first appearance in the D2Football.com Top 25 since the 2019 season.

Fort Hays State's last appearance in the D2Football.com Top 25 Poll was on November 5, 2019 before it took on a No. 12/14 ranked Northwest Missouri State team in Hays. The Bearcats won that matchup 36-33 in double overtime, which knocked the Tigers out of the rankings the following week. FHSU went on to win the following week and finished the 2019 season at 8-3 overall.

Fort Hays State is one of three schools from the MIAA represented in the September 2 edition of the poll, joining No. 2 Central Missouri and No. 3 Pittsburg State. Central Missouri was idle last week, while Pittsburg State claimed a 19-3 win in a Top 10 matchup against Ferris State.

Fort Hays State was among the teams receiving votes in the AFCA Preseason Top 25 Poll.
