Gus Peine, Hays, and Bryce Steffan, Ellinwood, high school students enrolled in the Kansas Academy of Math and Science at Fort Hays State University, lobbied Kansas congressional members and testified before the House Education Committee to pass Senate Bill 114.

It allows all KAMS students to fully participate in all KSHSAA activities (music, sports, debate, Scholars Bowl, etc.).

The bill was signed by Governor Laura Kelly on April 7.

A special thanks to Senator Tory Marie Blew, Great Bend, and Representatives Sherri Brantley, Great Bend and Barb Wasinger, Hays.

KAMS is Kansas' premier early college program designed to provide a STEM-focused academic experience for gifted and talented 11th and 12th grade students.
