6:26 p.m. UPDATE: Interstate 70 between Hays and WaKeeney is back open. But officials are still urging motorists to use caution and be prepared for area of reduced visibility due to blowing dust.
The National Weather Service in Dodge City has also issued a blowing dust advisory for portions of central, south central, southwest and west central Kansas.

5:25 p.m. UPDATE: The Kansas Department of Transportation has closed eastbound I-70 between WaKeeney and Hays to allow for cleanup of vehicle crashes blocking the roadway.
Blowing dust is causing reduced visibility in northwest Kansas. Motorists traveling through the region are advised to use caution and delay travel, if possible, until conditions improve.
KDOT does not have an estimated time for reopening.

4:45 p.m. UPDATE: Report from Ellis County Sheriff Scott Braun indicates dust is blowing across Highway 40 between 140th and 150th Avenues south of WaKeeney in western Ellis County/eastern Trego County.
Visibility is less than three feet, Braun said.
Blowing dust is also occurring to a lesser degree in eastern Ellis County.
Braun urged drivers to slow down or avoid the area if possible.

The National Weather Service in Dodge City says strong surface winds today and tonight will be sustained out of the south at 25-35 mph with gusts 50 mph or greater.
