Ellis County Sherriff's Department
On Friday at approximately 3:30 p.m., Ellis County Dispatch Center received a 911 call of a multiple-vehicle accident in the 3000 block of 100th Avenue in Ellis County.
Upon arrival of the first responders, it was determined that a Chevrolet Equinox driven by Ashley Adams of Vallejo, Calif., stopped on a bridge in the roadway.
The second vehicle, a 2021 BMW 540i driven by James Simons of Houston, Texas, swerved to miss the Equinox, coming to a stop in the roadway.
The third vehicle, a 2011 Buick Encore driven by Michael Griffie of Detroit, Mich., struck the BMW.
The fourth vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet Impala driven by Andrea Etzel of Topeka struck the Chevrolet Equinox in the rear bumper area.
The fifth vehicle, a 2011 Nissan Altima driven by Tadonne Neal of Wichita struck the Buick Encore vehicle causing it to partially spin, coming to rest after striking the Chevrolet Impala in the rear bumper.
It was determined that all parties involved in the traffic accident had traveled from out of the area to observe the placement of the sign initiating the four-day Nicodemus emancipation celebration and that with the additional traffic it created dust limiting the visibility of drivers.
Tadonne Neal was transported by Ellis County EMS to Hays Medical Center with minor injuries.
Agencies involved were the Ellis County Sheriff's Office, Ellis County EMS, Ellis County Fire, Trego County Sheriff's Office, Trego County EMS and Trego County Fire.
